**Short answer:** on our Pixelmon server <img src="https://2752420689-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F97bxQeDEbdsPHKQYjy8g%2Fuploads%2FdnowUpS7V9pD7ZvFOI32%2Fpixelmon.webp?alt=media&amp;token=33be6777-ff09-446b-b95a-705e0ae559b1" alt="Pixelmon Server Exclusive" data-size="line">, your Pokémon can **Terastallize** in battle to take on their Tera Type. First unlock a **Tera Orb** through Pixelmon's research quests (press **M**). **Tera Raids** let up to four players battle a Terastallized boss together at a Tera den. You'll find Tera dens in our **Resource World**: type `/rtp` and pick the Resource World.

{% hint style="info" %}
Terastallization and Tera Raids came with Pixelmon 9.4, and they work the normal Pixelmon way on Blaze. They're only on our Pixelmon server: our Cobblemon server doesn't have them. Nothing Tera-related is sold in our store.

## What does Terastallization do?

When a Pokémon Terastallizes, it takes on its **Tera Type** for the rest of the battle. Its defensive typing changes to that type, and its moves of that type get stronger. A Terastallized Pokémon gets a crystal look and a crown that matches its Tera Type.

You can see a Pokémon's Tera Type in its **Summary** screen. It isn't always one of the Pokémon's normal types: raid bosses, for example, get a random Tera Type.

## How do I get a Tera Orb?

You need a **Tera Orb** to Terastallize, and you unlock it through research. Open your research with the **M** key (Pixelmon's default).

**Before you can start:** you need either 120 Pokémon registered in your Pokédex, or 60 registered plus one of these: the Mega Evolution research done, the Dynamax research done, or a Generation 9 Pokémon in your party.

Then pick **one** of three research paths. Each player can complete only one of them:

| Research path | How it starts |
| ----------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The Scarlet Annotations | Photograph a Psychic-type or Fairy-type Pokémon with a camera |
| Path of the Crowned | Defeat an Epic, Legendary or Ultimate boss Pokémon |
| To the Sleeping Crystal | Find an Ancient City |

Once you have the Tera Orb, equip it to use it in battle.

## Tera Types and Tera Shards

**Tera Shards** change a Pokémon's Tera Type. Shards come in different types, and Tera Raids give you random ones (from 3-star raids up).

## Tera Raids

In a Tera Raid, up to four players team up against one Terastallized boss. Each player fights the boss in their own linked battle, so you all hit the same boss at once.

### Where are the Tera dens?

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Go to the Resource World

Type `/rtp` and pick the **Resource World**. The Resource World resets from time to time, so new dens show up.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Look for a glowing crystal den

A Tera den is a cluster of hexagonal crystals with amethyst blocks under it. (Some dens are Max Raid dens instead.) A den with a raid ready glows and sends up a pillar of light. **The den's color matches the boss's Tera Type**, so you know what you're up against before you start.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Open the raid screen

Interact with the den to open the raid screen. Pick your Pokémon, then start the raid on your own or wait for other players to join.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Each Tera den has a 75% chance of a new raid at the start of every Minecraft day.

### How does a raid work?

* **Stars:** raids in dens run from 1 to 6 stars. More stars means a tougher boss and better rewards.
* **Partners:** if fewer than four players join, NPC trainers fill the empty slots.
* **Time limit:** you have 5 minutes to win.
* **Terastallizing:** in a raid you can Terastallize after your Pokémon has used 3 moves.
* **The shield:** once per raid, when the boss drops to half its HP, or after 3 minutes, it puts up a shield that cuts the damage it takes. You do more damage through the shield when you're Terastallized, and the most with moves that match your Tera Type.
* **Fainting:** a fainted Pokémon comes back on its own after a few seconds. The wait gets longer each time it faints.
* **Cheers:** while you wait to come back, you can cheer up to 3 times a raid, and each cheer helps every Pokémon in the raid:
  * **All Out** raises Attack and Special Attack.
  * **Hang Tough** raises Defense and Special Defense.
  * **Heal Up** restores HP and cures status problems.

### Can I catch the boss?

Yes. When you win, every player gets one chance to catch the boss, and Master Balls work too. A caught boss keeps the Tera Type it had in the raid. Almost any Pokémon can be a raid boss, except Ogerpon and Terapagos.

### What are the rewards?

Rewards get better with more stars. Low-star raids give items like Exp. Candies and berries. Higher-star raids add bottle caps, Rare Candy, vitamins, mints and **Tera Shards** from 3 stars up:

| Raid    | Tera Shards |
| ------- | ----------- |
| 3 stars | 2           |
| 4 stars | 3           |
| 5 stars | 4           |
| 6 stars | 6           |

## Tips

* **Tera Blast** is a Normal-type move. When the user is Terastallized, it becomes the user's Tera Type, so it pairs well with Terastallization.
* **Check the den's color before you start,** and bring Pokémon with moves that are strong against the boss's Tera Type.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the Cobblemon server have Terastallization?

No. Terastallization and Tera Raids are only on our Pixelmon server. See [Cobblemon vs Pixelmon](/info-pages/cobblemon-vs-pixelmon.md) for the other differences.

### Do I need the modpack?

No, but you need Pixelmon on the same version as our server. [How to Join a Pixelmon Server](/guides/how-to-join-a-pixelmon-server.md) has the details, and Pixelmon Plus+ always installs the right version.

### Is anything Tera-related sold in the store?

No. Tera Orbs come from research, and Tera Shards from Tera Raids.

### Where can I learn the rest of Pixelmon?

Our [Pixelmon Beginner Guide](/guides/getting-started-pixelmon.md) covers your first hour and first week, and Pixelmon's own research quests (press **M**) walk you through the mod.
