# Simple Voice Chat on Blaze: Keys, Groups & Fixes

Simple Voice Chat on Blaze Gaming's Pixelmon and Cobblemon servers: setup, default keys, group chats, safety and fixes for "voice chat not connected".

**Short answer:** both of our servers have **Simple Voice Chat**, a proximity voice chat. Players near you in the game can hear you, and you can hear them. Our modpacks already include it. Press **V** to open the voice chat menu, **M** to mute your microphone (with voice activation) and **N** to turn voice chat off.

Voice chat is optional. You can play without it, turn it off with **N**, or join without the mod installed at all.

## How do I set it up?

#### Get the mod

[Pixelmon Plus+ and Cobblemon Plus+](/guides/modpack-installation-guide.md) include Simple Voice Chat. Not using our modpack? Install a version of Simple Voice Chat that matches the server: NeoForge on Minecraft <code class="expression">space.vars.PIXELMON\_MC\_VERSION</code> for Pixelmon, or Fabric on Minecraft <code class="expression">space.vars.COBBLEMON\_MC\_VERSION</code> for Cobblemon.

#### Join and press V

The first time you join, a chat message tells you about voice chat. Press **V** to start the setup guide.

#### Pick your microphone and speakers

Choose the microphone and the speakers or headphones you want to use.

#### Choose push-to-talk or voice activation

With **push-to-talk**, you hold a key while you speak, and the guide asks you to pick that key. With **voice activation**, the mod picks up your voice when you speak.

#### Test it

Press **V**, then **Settings**, and use the microphone test to hear yourself. If you picked voice activation, you start muted after setup: press **M** to unmute.

## Default keys

| Key         | What it does                                      |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| **V**       | Open the voice chat menu                          |
| **M**       | Mute or unmute your microphone (voice activation) |
| **N**       | Turn voice chat off or on                         |
| **G**       | Open group chats                                  |
| **H**       | Hide or show the voice chat icons                 |
| Your choice | Push-to-talk, if you picked it during setup       |

You can change any key in Minecraft's **Controls** settings.

## Group chats

A group lets you talk to friends even when they aren't nearby. Press **G**, or open the menu with **V**, to create or join a group.

| `/voicechat invite [player]`   | Invite a player to your group                        |
| `/voicechat join [group name]` | Join a group by its name (it may ask for a password) |
| `/voicechat leave`             | Leave your group                                     |
| `/voicechat help`              | List the voice chat commands                         |

## Staying safe in voice chat

* **Our chat rules apply in voice chat too.**
* **Keep personal details to yourself,** like your real name, address or school.
* **Anyone nearby can hear you,** and players can record voice chat with the mod's recording feature. Talk as you would in any public place.
* **Turn down or mute a player:** press **V**, then **Adjust Volumes**, and turn that player down.
* **Report a player** with `/report [player]` in game, or open a support ticket in our [Discord](https://discord.gg/blaze).

## Fixing voice chat problems

### "Voice chat not connected"

If voice chat works for other players but not for you, your internet connection may be blocking it.

* **On mobile data or a hotspot?** Some providers block voice chat. Try your home internet.
* **Using a VPN?** Turn it off and rejoin.
* If nobody can connect, or it still doesn't work for you, rejoin the server and tell us in our [Discord](https://discord.gg/blaze).

### Other players can't hear me

* Check that you aren't muted (**M**).
* Press **V**, then **Settings**, and use **Select Microphone** to pick the right one.
* With voice activation, lower the activation level so the mod picks up your voice.
* On Windows, make sure your privacy settings let apps use the microphone.

### I can't hear other players

* Press **V**, then **Settings**, and use **Select Speaker** to pick the right speakers or headphones.
* Check that voice chat isn't turned off (**N**).

### I'm on a Mac and my microphone doesn't work

Minecraft can't ask macOS for microphone access on its own. If you use the CurseForge app, go to **Settings → Game Specific → Minecraft → Launcher Settings** and pick the **CurseForge Launcher**. Then start the game and allow microphone access when your Mac asks.

### My game sound is choppy with a Bluetooth headset

Many Bluetooth headsets don't have enough bandwidth to send and receive audio at the same time, so game sound gets choppy. Use a wired headset or a separate microphone.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need voice chat to play?

No. Voice chat is optional, and you can join without the mod.

### Is voice chat on both servers?

Yes. Simple Voice Chat works on our Pixelmon and Cobblemon servers.

### I can't join the server at all
