# Cobblemon vs Pixelmon

Cobblemon or Pixelmon? How the two Minecraft Pokémon mods differ, how Blaze Gaming's Pixelmon and Cobblemon servers compare, and which one to play.

**Short answer:** play **Pixelmon** if you want detailed models that look like the main-series games, Mega Evolution, and our longest-running community. Play **Cobblemon** if you'd rather have Pokémon that look and feel like part of Minecraft, on a newer server that's still growing, with every Pokémon from generations 1 to 9. Both are free on Minecraft Java Edition, and you can play both from our hub at <code class="expression">space.vars.SERVER\_IP</code>.

## Which one should I play?

**Pixelmon is for you if** you want models that look like the games, you enjoy competitive battling with Mega Evolution, and you'd like to join a community that has been around for nearly a decade.

**Cobblemon is for you if** you want Pokémon that look like they belong in Minecraft, and you like the idea of a fresh server early in its first season, with new features added one update at a time.

**Can't decide?** Play both. They're on the same network, and each server has its own progress, so you can build a team on each.

## What's the same on both servers?

Almost everything. Daily [Bingo](/features/bingo.md), [Modifiers](/features/modifiers.md), PokéHunts, the Global Trade System, Wonder Trade, crates, cosmetics, plushies, [vote rewards](/features/voting.md) and the rest of our [List of Features](/features/list-of-features.md) are on both servers. We host community events Wednesday to Sunday and a monthly tournament on each server (on Pixelmon it's the Mega Monthly Tournament, or MMT), and we aim to reset each server roughly once a year so there's always a fresh season to look forward to.

The only feature difference is the coins you get per vote.

## How are the two mods different?

**Pixelmon** has been in development for over a decade. It includes every Pokémon from generations 1 to 8 (generation 9 is still being filled in), with detailed models that look like the main-series games and battle mechanics to match, including Mega Evolution. On <code class="expression">space.vars.PIXELMON\_MC\_VERSION</code> it runs on NeoForge.

**Cobblemon** is the newer mod. It's open source and built to feel like part of Minecraft: its Pokémon have a blocky, heavily animated style, and its battles run on the Pokémon Showdown engine. The base mod adds more Pokémon with every update, and on Blaze our custom datapacks and [resource pack](/info-pages/resource-pack.md) add the rest, so every Pokémon from generations 1 to 9 is on our Cobblemon server. Cobblemon doesn't have Mega Evolution yet. On Blaze it runs on Fabric.

Because they use different mod loaders on Blaze (NeoForge for Pixelmon, Fabric for Cobblemon), each server has its own modpack. See [Our Servers](/info-pages/our-servers.md) for the history of each server and our past seasons.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Cobblemon better than Pixelmon?

Neither is better overall. Pixelmon has models that look like the games and Mega Evolution; Cobblemon looks and feels more like Minecraft. On Blaze, both servers have nearly every Pokémon and almost all the same features, so pick the style you like.

### Can I play Pixelmon and Cobblemon at the same time?

Not in the same game. Our Pixelmon server runs on NeoForge and our Cobblemon server on Fabric, so each needs its own modpack. Install both and launch whichever one you want to play. Both are on the same network at <code class="expression">space.vars.SERVER\_IP</code>.

### Do my Pokémon, coins or Vote Points carry over between the servers?

Your Pokémon, coins and items don't: each server keeps its own. Vote Points are the exception. They're a global currency, so you can earn them on one server and spend them on the other.

### Do I need a different modpack for each server?

Yes. Use Pixelmon Plus+ for Pixelmon and Cobblemon Plus+ for Cobblemon. The [Modpack Installation Guide](/guides/modpack-installation-guide.md) walks you through both.

### Are both servers free?

Yes. Both are free to play on Minecraft Java Edition. Pixelmon and Cobblemon don't support Bedrock Edition.

## Ready to play?
